GLSEN was born from a spark—an idea—an action.
That spark became the first GSA (Gender-Sexuality Alliances, also known as Gay-Straight Alliances), an alliance of understanding, support, and safety between a teacher and a student who felt different and targeted.
Today, after over 30 years of leading the movement, GLSEN’s national network is more than 1.5 million strong, with students, families, educators, and education advocates working to create safe schools. Safety in school means being who you are without fear of violence, retaliation, and consequence. It means acceptance and support to learn who you will become while earning the academic education and success every young person deserves, because no young person should have to choose between their well-being and education.
GLSEN programming helps reduce victimization for our LGBTQ+ youth and sets the course for a safer, more equitable future. We coordinate a network of 39 chapters in 30 states across the nation. Our chapter network works locally to advance equity in local schools and communities through professional development for educators, policy advocacy, youth engagement, and research initiatives. By coordinating local chapters and a network of educators across the country, GLSEN’s model catalyzes widespread impact on individual student lives by empowering local communities to take action.
Furthermore, we empower students to directly affect change by supporting student-led efforts to positively impact their own schools and local communities, via advocacy campaigns like Day of Silence and Solidarity Week. GLSEN also supports thousands of registered GSAs nationwide (Gender-Sexuality Alliances, also known as Gay-Straight Alliances).
Our most recent National School Climate Survey shows 2 in 5 LGBTQ+ Youth of Color were bullied based on their race or ethnicity, and 84% of trans students felt unsafe because of their gender. We understand that what is good for the most vulnerable students, including LGBTQ+ students who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), immigrant, disabled, low-income, or otherwise disadvantaged, is good for all students. We know that everyone benefits from a safer school environment, and we know that every child deserves it.

There is a pervasive cultural stigma that often discourages members of our community from receiving the help they need. In many Asian American communities, and in the greater American population, there exists a general lack of knowledge about mental health and mental illnesses. Because many of the symptoms of suffering are “invisible,” it is often harder for mental illnesses to be acknowledged. There is a misconception that struggling with mental health is a choice or a sign of weakness.
We are here to dispel this belief and provide resources that are accessible to all, that will fall under Educational Programming, Community Events, and Partnerships.

500 Women Scientists is a global grassroots organization with a mission to make science open, inclusive and accessible by fighting racism, patriarchy, and oppressive societal norms.  To achieve our mission, our programs focus on three goals:  (1) holding institutions accountable, (2) building collective power, and (3) changing the face of science. 

We work to build communities and foster real change that comes from small groups, not large crowds. Our local chapters or pods help create those deep roots through strong, personal relationships. Local pods are where members meet regularly, develop a support network, make strategic plans, and take action. To date, we have 533 pods from 92 countries.

Support Black Men Heal

Mental illness in black men is often under diagnosed and untreated due to health disparities that exist for people  of color. We created a solution that offers men access and opportunity to  both quality and culturally competent therapy. We provide FREE mental health resources, including individual and group therapy to men of color. We treat mental illnesses such as PTSD, depression and anxiety for men who are suffering from traumatic effects of racism, discrimination and systemic oppression.
